President Trump is furious about the leaks from his administration and he wants a purge of sorts to stop them.
Politicoreports tonight that not only does Trump want people on his communications team gone, but John Kelly is on board:
White House chief of staff John Kelly signed off on a plan that would flush out some of the department’s midlevel and junior aides, according to three people familiar with the situation. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and other key senior officials are expected to remain, these people said.
This new White House outrage over leaks stemmed from the leak of White House aide Kelly Sadler‘s nasty comment about John McCain.
Trump actually spoke to Sadler recently, Politico reveals, to ask her and others to “identify leakers in the communications shop.”
Last week he tweeted, “The so-called leaks coming out of the White House are a massive over exaggeration put out by the Fake News Media in order to make us look as bad as possible. With that being said, leakers are traitors and cowards, and we will find out who they are!”
The Politico report also reveals that Kelly came to Sadler’s defense, despite his personal respect for McCain:
Kelly, whose relationship with Trump has been distant over the past few months, is a close ally of the president in the matter. In an orientation session for some of the administration’s recent hires on Tuesday morning, he sought to explain Sadler’s remark, telling the group that it was merely a factual statement — not a morbid joke.
